Arab Network in cooperation with the Arab Historical Society of Kuwait, held a training workshop specializing in "training of Arab trainers specialized in the application of the methodology of participatory self-assessment", in Kuwait, during 18-20 December, 2011.

“The interaction of the Civil Society with the new revolutionary changes”

On June 26 2011, the Arab Network for NGOs organized a roundtable at the headquarters of the Arab Council for Childhood and Development. The meeting was attended by 26 participants, all of them concerned with the Civil Society. Discussions relied on a background paper prepared by Dr. Amani Kandil and sent to the invitees a week before the event. Participants were requested to develop recommendations aimed at feeding a future strategy capable of meeting the new reality and the revolutionary changes, and enabling the Civil Society to playing a more effective role in the forthcoming period.

The present reflection comes at the end of the first decade in the third millennium, and aims at presenting a critical reading of both academic and political discourses that prevailed about the Civil Society in connection to the ongoing process of socio-economic reform and democratic change. Actually, it is possible to say now that the representation of the Civil Society and its potentials in operating change were quite exaggerated.
